Presenting ASTRO at the UK Space Agency Tech Showcase

25/06/2025

Slipstream Design was privileged to be invited to present our progress in getting ASTRO ready for space communications at the event hosted by the UK Space Agency last week.

This Technology Showcase allowed us to gain insights into our place in the UK technology strategy.

Preparing for Launch

With a strong heritage in technologies that bridge digital and Radio Frequency (RF) domains, Slipstream Design continues to innovate by collaborating with leading engineering talent worldwide, addressing the complex demands of modern electromagnetic environments.

As part of this collective, we’re propelling ASTRO towards software satellite communication readiness, which we were able to discuss with leaders from the UK space industry, academia, defence, investment, and government as part of a diverse group of panellists showcasing the achievements of the National Space Investment Programme (NSIP) at the prestigious Royal Society. It was great to be able to share the stage with exciting UK space businesses such as Super-Sharp Systems, Frontier Space and ETL Systems.

In the demonstration area Slipstream Design showcased ASTRO flexibility switching between complex waveforms whilst synchronising multiple pulsed chirps (or radar signals) at S Band frequencies.

Slipstream Design has received £275,000 in cross-governmental contracts to date, with additional funds recently secured to continue the translation of ASTRO from a terrestrial to a satellite communications tool.

Introduction to ASTRO

ASTRO is the result of fusing software-defined radio and system-on-chip technologies to revolutionise RF systems.

The ASTRO eco-system represents a critical advancement in radio platform development, enabling more complex waveform transmission and setting the stage for next-generation networked sensing and communication systems.

Bringing Space Skills to the North

As a Yorkshire business based in the RF heartland of the UK, Slipstream Design prides itself on offering exceptional engineering skill development to a diverse team. We’re rapidly getting to grips with the rigorous standards for space-ready technology, thanks to the guidance of experienced experts in the field.

Stay tuned to hear how we get on!
